The Los Gatos Union School District Board of Trustees announced at the May 14 board meeting in a unanimous vote that Dan Deguara will be appointed as the new Superintendent of Schools for LGUSD.
After an extensive search process that included receiving in-person and online feedback from teachers, staff, parents and the community, the board chose Deguara.
A spokesperson said he has “a proven record of leading a high-performing, community-funded district through strategic alignment, fiscal stewardship and the creation of inclusive systems that foster high student achievement.”
Deguara is recognized for his advocacy of diverse educational models, including the implementation of the International Baccalaureate Program in his current school district, board officials said.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dan Deguara as our new superintendent,” Board President Courtney Monk said.
Deguara has been the superintendent of the Belmont Redwood Shores School District since 2020.
There he passed bond and parcel tax measures, and provided oversight of a major bond program.
“He also cultivated vital partnerships with local foundations and improved collaboration with both high school districts and labor organizations,” a spokesperson said in the release. “Over a 30-year career that began in the classroom, Deguara has also held various leadership positions in the Evergreen School District, including serving as a Principal and Assistant Superintendent.”
A native of the Bay Area raised in Cupertino and currently living in San Jose, Deguara is an alumnus of Santa Clara University with a Master’s in Educational Administration and degrees in Psychology and Liberal Studies. Outside of his professional life, he is an outdoor enthusiast who values time with his wife and two children.
Deguara is set to assume his new duties on July 1, succeeding the retiring Superintendent Paul Johnson.
“I am honored to be chosen as the incoming Superintendent for the Los Gatos Union School District,” Deguara remarked in the news release. “I look forward to joining this vibrant learning community and partnering with staff and families to ensure every student is prepared for the future.”
