With summer slipping away and the breezes of fall scattering the leaves, we say goodbye to this year’s Jazz on the Plazz series. Los Gatos Music & Arts did it again this summer with their jazz-based outdoor weekly. Time for the indoor Gala finale—the 24th year of it. And time to raise funds for those music students’ workshops.
Workshops will be instructed with direction and assistance from the Brubeck family and Kristen Strom. The first LGM&A student workshop will be held in October. Students are selected from across the South Bay for this extraordinary experience of playing with professional musicians.
Maria Muldaur and her Jazzabelle Quintet performed “Blues & All That Jazz.” Muldaur maintains the charm of her voice as well as her endearing qualities that have lasted over many years of entertaining. Not bad for an 84-year-old singer! Strom, who runs the South Bay Intensive Summer Camp for Youth and the LGM&A school music clinics, also performed. And there were delicious Italian eats on offer.
Muldaur is an American folk and blues singer who was part of the American folk music revival in the early ‘60s. In 1973 she recorded “Midnight at the Oasis,” a smash hit that was played on almost every radio station across the world.
Her sultry smooth alto voice gave attendees hints of dark late-night jazz clubs.
