Three people were injured in a Los Gatos crash on southbound Highway 17 next to Vasona Lake last night, authorities said.

After a caller alerted them of the situation by dialing 911, crews from Santa Clara County Fire, California Highway Patrol, Santa Clara County EMS, and Pacific Gas and Electric headed to the incident site, south of Highway 85, around 9:50pm.

They arrived to find a vehicle had left the road and knocked a power pole over, by the Garden Hill entrance to Vasona Lake County Park.

Of the four vehicle occupants, three were taken to area hospitals with minor to moderate injuries, fire officials said.

“A downed power line complicated rescue efforts and started a small fire,” said Capt. Justin Stockman, a spokesperson for the county fire agency. “SCCFD crews worked with PG&E employees to safely rescue the vehicle occupants and extinguish the fire.”

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

“All motor vehicle collisions should remind motorists to reduce speeds, pay close attention, and expect the unexpected on area roadways,” Stockman said. “We also want to remind the entire community that seat belts save lives every single day in Santa Clara County.”
