For the second time in four months, Los Gatos High School was evacuated on Monday due to a gas leak at an adjacent construction site.
A police cruiser parked at Jackson and Main Streets near the high school, blocking the thoroughfare shortly after the gas line burst shortly before 9:45am. Workers and school evacuees gathered on nearby street corners as the smell of natural gas wafted through the air and public safety officials admonished against smoking.

Responders from Pacific Gas and Electric and Santa Clara County Fire Department— the latter in gas masks and full body suits with oxygen tanks—worked until 10:30am to cap the loudly hissing leak behind the Los Gatos Athletic Club construction site.

Workers standing by said a Bobcat-style excavator ruptured the underground pipe while digging.
The previous gas leak and evacuation occurred May 10.
