On Monday, El Camino Health held a Grand Opening for its expanded “Cancer Center Los Gatos” at 555 Knowles Dr. The company says its new facility marks a doubling in capacity to meet a growing demand for oncology care in the South Bay.
Mayor Rob Moore spoke at the event, with Vice Mayor Maria Ristow and Council members Mary Badame and Matthew Hudes also in attendance.
“When someone is facing cancer, they shouldn’t have to travel far from the people who love them to get the care they need,” said Moore. “This new clinic means our neighbors can get timely, high-quality treatment close to home during one of the hardest chapters of their lives.”
“At El Camino Health, we believe cancer care should be close to home and available the moment you need it,” said Tracey Lewis Taylor, chief operating officer of El Camino Health, in a release. “This new clinic reflects who we are, a community hospital that invests in the communities we serve, so that the very best care is always within reach for the families of Los Gatos and the greater South Bay.”
El Camino Health’s Cancer Center and infusion center previously operated within a single shared facility. The infusion center will remain in its current location while the newly opened Cancer Center will house clinical consultations and specialized care teams.
“When you’re facing a cancer diagnosis, every day matters,” said Dr. Shane Dormady, Ocampo Family medical director of oncology at El Camino Health, in the release. “This expansion allows us to provide patients with even greater access to oncology services closer to home. By increasing our capacity for visits and treatments, we’re enhancing convenience, supporting a seamless care experience and ensuring patients receive the timely, compassionate care they deserve.”
An El Camino Health spokesperson noted incidence of cancer continues to rise across the region, including among younger adults. According to the American Cancer Society, young adults take a higher risk of developing 17 cancers, however about 85% of children, adolescents and young adults with cancer now live five years or more after treatment.
The dedicated new clinic is just around the corner from the existing Cancer Center. Infusion and injection services, along with laboratory blood draws, will continue at the current location.
