YOUNG LEADERS - Members of the Monte Sereno Youth Commission discussed emergency preparedness ideas at their regularly-scheduled meeting Aug. 11. (City of Monte Sereno)

The Monte Sereno Youth Commission is helping residents prepare for wildfires, earthquakes, power outages and other disasters by launching an ambitious initiative to build and distribute emergency “go bags” to every household in Monte Sereno.

Led by Youth Commission Vice Chair Stella Zeidler and Secretary Corinne Chou, this communitywide effort puts young people at the forefront of local resilience.

From developing a business plan and designing Go Bags, to securing funding and partnerships, to conducting marketing through social media, and even coordinating distribution, these young leaders are gaining invaluable real-world experience while making a tangible difference.

“This is youth leadership in action, turning ideas into impact and empowering the next generation to help protect their community and build a stronger, safer Monte Sereno,” a City spokesperson said in a release.

This month, the youth commission will continue to focus on issues related to defensible space, home safety and wildfire awareness.
