I am writing to clarify my statements that appeared in the May 27–June 2, 2026 article in The Gatan regarding the WVMA Conditional Use Permit (CUP).
My concern centers on the operating hours authorized under the proposed modification. Under the 2020 CUP, activities were limited to no later than 10pm, except during the 30 days of Ramadan, when hours could extend to 11pm
The current modification request would allow activities to continue until 10:30pm for 335 days each year and until 11:30pm during the 30 days of Ramadan, or until midnight, depending on sunset. Equally concerning is the provision allowing an additional 30 minutes for vehicles to exit the parking lot. As a result, noise associated with departing vehicles could continue until 11pm for 335 days each year and until 12am or even 12:30am, depending on sunset, during Ramadan.
For residents in this small neighborhood, this additional half hour of nighttime activity and vehicle noise is a significant concern. The cumulative impact on restorative sleep and neighborhood tranquility should not be overlooked.
Thank you for allowing me to clarify my comments.
Sincerely,
Susan Burnett, Planning Commissioner
