At around 4:45am today, firefighters learned of a fire at a small fire station in the Santa Cruz Mountains—at the intersection of Empire Grade, Ice Cream Grade and Felton-Empire Road in Bonny Doon, authorities said.

The response to the McDermott Fire Station, located at 7276 Empire Grade Rd., included crews from Cal Fire, the Santa Cruz County Fire Department and the Felton Fire Protection District.

“First arriving resources found active fire and the water tender involved,” a Cal Fire CZU spokesperson said on Twitter. “Crews set priorities and conducted primary search of both stories and simultaneously conducted fire attack.”
