The Roman saying “Beware of the Ides of March” warned Cesar of his upcoming demise on March 15, 44 BCE. This article is not meant to “warn” you of anything. Rather, it is to let you know of all of the enriching and exciting happenings going on here in our town. “Erin go Bragh!”
Police fundraiser
The Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Foundation Officers Ball will be held this Saturday, March 7, 6:30-10:30pm, at Testarossa Winery, 300 College Ave. ($200 each). A four course sit-down dinner will be served; jazz music will entertain; and an online (and live) fundraising auction will take place. For men, “black tie” formal wear is suggested. Women supporting women
The Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce has been very busy, first with International Women’s Day preparations (it’s happening March 8). We have many women-owned businesses here in town that came together to promote this day. Jennifer Lin, the Chamber’s CEO, with her team Beth Foley (multimedia designer) and Nicole Archibald (operations / membership) helped to coordinate it all. Festivities are planned, starting on Friday and continue on to Sunday. Balloons will mark the participating shops and restaurants. Take a walk around downtown and explore somewhere you have never been before.

Upcoming Chamber gala
The next Chamber of Commerce “Shine Among the Stars” gala has been scheduled for March 28 at Nestldown. Tickets are $185-$200, with attendance capped at 200 people. There will be shuttle service. Awards will be given out. for Business of the Year, New or Emerging Business, Non-Profit of the year, Chamber Champion and Los Gatan of the year. It has been six years since a full-scale Chamber gala has been held. Tickets are limited.
Who wants a new community center?
From those busy people at the Los Gatos Community Center Campaign, a Feb. 21 press release arrived: “The Town has not had a teen gathering place since the closing of The Venue, a teen-only center in 2012,” it reads, noting many teens say they don’t want a teen-only space.
Teens at Los Gatos High have formed a teen “Los Gatos Thrives” club, named after the foundation behind the push for a new community center.
“We want to be able to interact with people of different ages, at different stages of life,” said Tanner Goulden, club president.
Space for teens has emerged as one of the top priorities in the research report. .
Goulden added, “It’s all about community and bridging gaps that aren’t bridged now. It takes a lot of community involvement to get a large project like this off the ground. It’s been kind of great to go from not knowing much about how the town functions to meeting and working with a lot of the people that make the Town what it is. Those people are the reasons we’re even talking about it now.”

Wearing of the green
On St. Patrick’s Day, everyone in town becomes Irish, even if just for a day. On March 13, the new Heritage Pub & Chop House, upstairs at 15 N. Santa Cruz Ave. will serve a buffet for $75 per person. Live music with live lassies dancing and an extraordinary buffet for St. Patrick’s Day.
This new pub and restaurant are owned and managed by Kristi and Walker Pearce-Percy, both Los Gatos High graduates. This will be a combined St. Patrick’s celebration and Grand Opening event. Heritage Pub & Chop House is located upstairs and across the hall from The Second Story. By the way, you can play “Trivia” at the Heritage Pub & Chop House on March 10. The theme will be “A Special Shout Out to Women.”
“Continuing the tradition,” Campo Di Bocce, at 565 University Ave., will hold this year’s main St. Patrick’s festivities, March 17, 11am-11pm. Chris Benson and Johnny Hannegan will host. They’ll be introducing live Irish music from The Black Irish, The Sorry Lot and The Prince Charles Pipe Band. There will be traditional Irish dancing and fresh oysters (bring cash to purchase those).
This event is a fundraiser for Los Gatos Music in the Park and the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Foundation. A few sponsorship opportunities are still available (contact Nicole Simons Ni****@**********ce.com if interested). Already, Devcon Construction and Joseph A. Albanese have stepped-up (Devcon as a Grand Marshal sponsor, and Albanese as Bodacious BBQ sponsors). Last year’s event occurred on a very cold and rainy March day. With the spring weather so unpredictable, be sure to layer your outfits and bring your smiles, oh, and be sure to be “wearing of the green.”
