The Butter Paddle, a nonprofit gift store in Los Gatos, has announced it is expanding its collection of local artisans and American-made brands on offer. The organization behind the shop says this is part of a thoughtful response to changing retail costs.

Among the newest additions is celebrated American glassmaker Simon Pearce, known for handblown glass, handcrafted home décor and other giftable items. The Vermont company is widely recognized for its commitment to traditional craftsmanship and American manufacturing.

“As part of a broader shift, we’re bringing in more American-made brands and local artists as we navigate tariff uncertainty and rising costs,” Lora Knol, The Butter Paddle’s marketing chair, told the Los Gatan in an email. “Like other small retailers, we’re attempting to adapt to a changing economy.”

The Butter Paddle will celebrate the exclusive arrival of Simon Pearce with a special in-store event on May 2 from 12-4pm, where customers can explore the collection and learn more about the brand’s distinctive handblown glass and artisan heritage.

Alongside this nationally respected brand, The Butter Paddle has also introduced several new local artists and makers. New additions include potter Anita Clemetson, artist Shane Tarkington, and handcrafted candles and soaps from Sud Scents, bringing fresh creativity and local craftsmanship to the store’s curated selection.

“At The Butter Paddle, we’re always looking for ways to showcase talented artists and one-of-a-kind products,” said Store Manager Candy Richards. “Adding more local artists allows us to offer unique, meaningful gifts while strengthening our connection to the community. While offering American-made products helps us navigate rising international tariff costs and fuel prices while continuing to offer customers beautifully crafted, high-quality goods.”

These new additions complement many longtime favorites already carried at the store, including Annieglass from Watsonville, Marjorie Baer jewelry from San Francisco, and gourmet treats from Roxanne’s Biscotti in Morgan Hill and Lula’s Chocolates in Monterey. Customers will also find nationally recognized artisan brands such as Rosy Rings candles from Colorado, Michael Michaud botanical jewelry from New York, Savannah Bee Company personal care products from Georgia, and Simplified soaps and lotions from Texas.

As a nonprofit gift store, The Butter Paddle reinvests proceeds into programs that support local at-risk families and children served by Pacific Clinics in Santa Clara County, making every purchase a way for shoppers to give back to the community.

“Our mission to support Pacific Clinics and our focus on local artisans and American-made goods help set The Butter Paddle apart,” added Kathi Hamilton, president of the EMQ Auxiliary—the volunteer organization that runs The Butter Paddle. “Unlike larger retailers, some of the products we carry support independent makers while helping fund programs for local families and children. That combination is part of the store’s unique charm.”

The Butter Paddle is run by more than 70 volunteers of the EMQ Auxiliary.

The store features a curated selection of artisan goods, gourmet foods, home décor, gifts, jewelry and children’s items.
