Los Gatan contributor Faizi Samadani has been monitoring a growing hummingbird family in his backyard for the past several days.

On April 8, he posted some photos on Next Door he’d taken on his Nikon digital camera, where you could see a mother and a baby in their cozy little nest.

It’s racked-up 193 reactions and 22 comments.

Cathy Sanfilippo, of San Jose, said she’d been witnessing a similar scene over in that city.

“So cute,” Sanfilippo said. “The 2 babies hatched this week.”

Another San Jose resident, Omar Siddiqui, said he’s spotted one on his avocado tree.

“It’s so adorable!” he exclaimed.

Sherry Gould, of Campbell, was amazed by the photos, as well.

“I have fed hummies for years and never seen a nest,” she said. “Wow!”

We decided to dispatch Samadani back to the scene to take more photographs of the spring action.

That resulted in this week’s front page shot, clearly depicting the baby and the egg.

As of Friday, both the egg and the baby had vanished.
