On Dec. 18, the Santa Clara County Board of Education welcomed two new trustees and elected its 2025 president and vice president. Trustee Maimona Afzal Berta, elected to the board in 2022, was named president for a second time, and Trustee ​Victoria Chon was named vice president. 

President Berta represents Trustee Area 6, which includes Alum Rock Union, Mt. Pleasant Elementary and Franklin-McKinley school districts, as well as a corresponding portion of East Side Union High School District—and a small portion of Evergreen and San Jose Unified school districts. 

Vice President Chon represents Trustee Area 5, which includes a majority portion of the Santa Clara Unified, Milpitas Unified, Orchard School and Berryessa Union school districts, as well as a small portion of Alum Rock Union School District and corresponding portions of East Side Union High School District.

Trustee Jorge Pacheco Jr. (Area 4) replaces Joseph DiSalvo; Jessica Speiser (Area 1) replaces Grace Mah.

Trustee Pacheco is president of the California Latino School Boards Association.

Trustee Speiser served on the Los Altos School Board of Trustees for eight years (December 2016-December 2024) and was involved in the leadership of the Santa Clara County School Boards Association as president in the 2023-2024 school year. 

The Santa Clara County Board of Education has seven members.

The trustees of the County Board of Education are Maimona Afzal Berta (Area 6), Victoria Chon (Area 5), Raeena Lari (Area 7), Jorge Pacheco (Area 4), Don Rocha (Area 3), Jessica Speiser (Area 1) and Tara Sreekrishnan (Area 2).
