Jaime D. Velez, the head of the Los Gatos Rowing Club, a non-profit organization that exists to promote amateur rowing in the Santa Clara Valley, had good news to share with the Los Gatan about the group’s recent performance at the Head of the Charles Regatta.
The prestigious race is held in Cambridge, Mass., at the banks of the Charles River.
The contest was founded in 1965 and attracts rowers from all over the United States—and the world.
Besides Los Gatos rowers, the local club is made up of students from San Jose, Los Altos, Saratoga High School and more.
Participants include Nolan Hamm of Los Gatos High School, Carl Lewis of Fusion Academy, Jasper Powell of Los Gatos High School, and Daniel Milligan of Bellarmine College Preparatory; on the women’s side, two of the stand-outs are Julia Valencia, Emerson Adams and Alexandra Buchowski of Los Gatos High School.
LGRC will host summer programs for interested participants,with registration starting in February.
Velez foresees the club growing, since it has been so successful in recent events.
