A man riding an electric scooter was struck and killed by an SUV in the Camden Avenue and Highway 85 area this morning, authorities said.

The collision occurred at 4:20am, the San Jose Police Department wrote on Twitter.

“An adult male pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene,” a spokesperson for the department said. “The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.”

This is San Jose’s 29th traffic death of the year.

According to the preliminary investigation, released Monday at 11:30am, a woman in a 2023 Chevy Trailblazer was headed westbound on Branham Lane through a green light.

That’s when the SUV collided with the man on the electric scooter, who had been traveling southbound on Camden Avenue.

The victim’s name has not been released, as officials are working to confirm his identity and to notify next of kin.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the San José Police Department’s Traffic Investigations Unit at 41**@sa*******.gov or 408-277-4654.
