Authorities have shared a tragic update to a story we brought you in this week’s newspaper.
The man who was brutally attacked at a Valley Transportation Authority light rail station in late September has died from his injuries.
And because of this, the attempted murder case against Brandon Fryshaw is now being investigated as a homicide.
The victim, a 42-year-old San Jose resident, was pronounced dead by medical staff at an area hospital on Wednesday, Oct. 8, shortly after 11 p.m., according to the County of Santa Clara.
He had been receiving treatment for critical head trauma suffered during a violent assault on Sept. 29, the County spokesperson said.
Deputies with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Gish VTA Light Rail Station just before midnight on the night of the assault and reported finding the victim unconscious and severely injured.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office Investigative Services Division arrested Fryshaw, 23, in connection with the attack. The case has been formally referred to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.
Authorities say Fryshaw is also a suspect in a separate assault involving another victim at the Saint James VTA Light Rail Station in San Jose.
