A vehicle collided with a 40-year-old woman along Highway 9 in Ben Lomond, then drove off, on Sunday around 9:40pm.

“For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle struck the pedestrian while the pedestrian was in the northbound lane,” said Sgt. E. Addy, of the California Highway Patrol‘s Santa Cruz station.

“The pedestrian sustained major injuries as a result of this crash.”

This collision occurred just south of where the highway intersects with Mill Street, which is where the ongoing detour around the site of a landslide sparked by January rains pops out.

The driver was last seen heading north up Highway 9.

The victim, who is yet to be identified, was flown to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas.

The CHP Santa Cruz Area is asking anyone with information about the crash to call Officer B. Mutoza at 831-219-0200 during daytime hours or at 831-796-2160 afterhours.
