On Dec. 7, at 2pm, Beyond Text Bookstore in Los Gatos will host a book signing with Ellen Kirschman, author of the newly released Call Me Carmela.
This psychological thriller follows police therapist Dot Meyerhoff as she helps a young woman uncover her roots, while unearthing dark family secrets along the way.
Kirschman isn’t just writing from imagination. She’s spent her career working closely with first responders, and draws on years of experience treating police officers and their families.
Known as the “Cop Doc,” she brings authenticity and insight to her fiction, blending sharp storytelling with her own fascinating experiences.
“I’m indebted to my clients and colleagues for inspiring me with their stories,” Kirschman said.
Her main character, Dot, shares some traits with the author, but is also quite different. Critics have called Dot a fearless—though deeply flawed—heroine.
“In her pursuit of justice, she does things I would have lost my license for—like assault with a deadly weapon, impersonating a public official, and breaking and entering,” Ellen explained.
During the event, Kirschman will introduce her latest book, answer questions and share entertaining stories from her life and career.
“Fiction lets me take pot shots at nasty cops, unethical psychologists and even a few ex-husbands,” she said.
The event will take place at Beyond Text, at 318 N. Santa Cruz Ave., Los Gatos, on Dec. 7 at 2pm.
