Barnes & Noble has finalized plans for its big grand opening next week.
The company says the location along Grays Lane downtown will be “a cozy addition to the Old Town area, offering about 7,000 square feet of books, toys, games, gift items and more.”
The new store is located next to Terra Outdoor Living, in the space formerly occupied by Williams Sonoma.
It will officially open to the public at 10am on Oct. 15, with MacArthur Foundation Fellow and award-winning author Gene Luen Yang cutting the ribbon (as well as signing copies of his books, including the National Book Award finalist American Born Chinese, which has been adapted into a series on Disney+).
“When looking to expand our presence in this area, Los Gatos was at the top of our list,” said James Daunt, CEO, Barnes & Noble. “We are thrilled to be opening a beautiful new Barnes & Noble here, and are more than happy to fill what appears to be an endless appetite for books in this town. Our booksellers have been hard at work and are eager to welcome the community into their brand-new Los Gatos Barnes & Noble.”
In the face of significant turbulence in the retail sector, Barnes & Noble says it’s enjoying a period of tremendous growth.
It credits its strategy of handing control of each bookstore to its local booksellers.
In 2024, Barnes & Noble opened more new bookstores in a single year than it had in the whole decade from 2009 to 2019, the company said in a release.
According to its latest figures, the bookseller expects to open over 60 new bookstores this year.
“The Los Gatos location is one of eight new Barnes & Noble bookstores set to open in October, alongside new stores in southern California, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Louisiana and Tennessee,” a spokesperson said in the release. “The design of the Los Gatos store showcases the ambition of Barnes & Noble to create exceptional local bookstores that marry the best traditions of independent bookselling with the resources of the historic chain.”
The Los Gatos Barnes & Noble will cover about 7,000 square feet and carry books, toys, games and gift items.
“I’m so excited to bring Barnes & Noble to Los Gatos,” said Store Manager Alondra Alfaro, a Barnes & Noble bookseller of 7 years. “The entire team is eager to connect with the booklovers in this beautiful community.”
