At what used to be called Villa Montalvo, now known as the Montalvo Arts Center, the Cancer CAREpoint (CCP) annual garden party and fundraiser was held on Aug. 31. This year’s theme was “Open the gates to care.”
Cancer never quits
Nearly every family in America has been touched by cancer in one way or another.
Today, according to the National Cancer Institute, 39.2% of Americans—nearly two out of five people—will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their life.
These are pretty scary numbers.
CCP never quits
Cancer CAREpoint is a nonprofit co-founded by Jan Willoughby and Gay Crawford in 2009, with inspiration and planning rooted in 2009–2010.
A need was seen among—and identified by—local patients, families and medical leaders, including Bill Piché and Dr. James Cohen. CCP officially opened its doors to the public in early 2012.
The new location at 1165 Lincoln Ave, Suite 300, San Jose, is now open—and welcoming all.
“Around 10,000 people in Silicon Valley are diagnosed with cancer every year, and thousands more are living as cancer survivors,” the organization’s website states.
“There will always be individuals and families who need emotional, practical, and psychological support to get through one of the most difficult experiences of their lives. Cancer CAREpoint is dedicated to ensuring that no one should have to face cancer alone.”
Services are provided at no cost to patients and their families, no matter where they receive medical care or their cancer type.
Personalized counseling and education resources available
What CCP offers is a community where comprehensive not-medical support, counseling resources and education is provided to cancer patients, survivors, families and caregivers across Silicon Valley. Informative classes include how to care for yourself or a loved one with cancer.

Other activities offered: meditation classes, nutrition classes, moderate-difficulty exercise classes and expressive art sessions. Wigs are available for patients who wish for them.
The many volunteers, board of directors, the cancer CAREpoint staff and the sponsors were recognized in the 18-page event brochure.
It also thanked sponsors—from diamond level to anonymous donors and individuals from all over the area—who made a difference.
Would you like a good way to have fun in your community and create some lasting change? Coming up on Oct. 21, from 9:30am-3pm at La Rinconada Country Club, there will be prizes and raffles and fun activities as part of 2026 Games Day.
“Gather your friends—or make new ones—and play your cards right with a fun-filled day of Bridge, Mahjong, and Canasta,” a spokesperson wrote about the event.
“The deck is stacked with fun, including prizes, lunch, a raffle drawing, and plenty of laughter. It’s sure to be a winning hand!”
