In perfect weather last week The Houserockers kicked off a summer of Music in the Park Sunday concerts at the Civic Center Lawn.
This week it was ESTERO—on another gorgeous Sunday afternoon—bringing their psychedelic California-soul and roots-rock project, fronted by Northern California musicians Eric Lindell and John Courage rocking out.
The stars aligned in brilliant harmony, as the band from Sonoma Country blended blues and deep grooves with guitar-driven sonic explorations.
It proved to be more about “trippy” listening——with 60s moves and vibin’ riffs—than, say, moshing.
The audience tripped-out, with freeform dancing, grooving away the afternoon. And yes, the scent of green herb filled the air.
Next Sunday – On Aug. 2, The Bent Peter Band, a high-energy Bay Area classic and alternative rock cover band will take to the stage outside the building where the Town Council holds its meetings.
Rock n’ roll forever: This group is celebrating their 21st year together. They’ve previously performed at Number 1 Broadway—so you know that there will be dancing. They are still rocking it—are you?
Aug. 9 – Lindsay and the Cheeks – A five-piece, utterly original, band from South Lake Tahoe, combining blues with rock and soul. Add in a dash of “southern smooth” and you’ll start to get the picture.
Aug. 16 – Miko Marks – This Oakland group is known for sophisticated sounds. Singer-songwriter-performer Miko Marks blends country, blues, rock, gospel and a whole lotta soul.
Aug. 23 – Harry and the Hitmen – You never know what these guys’ll cook up. But they never leave a crowd disappointed.
Jazz on the Plazz
July 29 – At 6:30pm, The San Jose High School Jazz All-Stars will open for Jessica Johnson.
This next generation of immensely talented musicians will lay the groundwork for Johnson, who is bringing her dynamic presence to Town Plaza Park.
Johnson is a singer-songwriter known for her expressive vocals. She dances and sings, and will surely entertain all. Her repertoire includes contemporary, ballads and traditional jazz.
Johnson is known for her high energy and her ability to draw the audience into the music. Today, Jessica sings for the Golden State Warriors as well as the Cathedral of Faith.
Bicyclists please note there is now bike parking available in front of the US Post Office building. Ride your bike into town without any parking hassles. It is requested not to ride your bikes around the immediate plaza area, as it is full of pedestrians.
Aug. 5 – From 6:30-8:30pm, Full Spectrum Big Band is set to delight jazz aficionados. They’ve been pumping out modern big band sounds since 1996.
Based right here in the Bay Area, the band brings together seasoned musicians who share a passion for keeping jazz vibrant, relevant and alive in the community. From classic Count Basie swing to modern, poly-rhythmic Latin and contemporary big band arrangements, Full Spectrum offers energetic performances full of depth.
So, bring your cool evening duds and your dancing shoes.
Dunk your mayor
Coming up on Aug. 4, from 5-7pm at Los Gatos Park Plaza, you’ll have a chance to Dunk Your Mayor—and perhaps others?
It’s part of the National Night Out, hosted by the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department.
Enjoy an early evening of promoting goodwill between the community and our local police department.
Activities and treats will include: cornhole, a blow-up batting cage, kids mini motorcycle rides, ice cream and coffee.
Participants include: Santa Clara County Fire, Los Gatos Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Disaster Aid Response Team (DART) with Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Foundation in attendance.
