The Town of Los Gatos announced today it had launched MyLosGatos311, a mobile app that allows residents to report non-emergency issues such as code-compliance violations and requests for facility updates—directly from their phones.
Los Gatos isn’t the first municipality to implement this service request platform for residents. MyLosGatos311 is powered by GOGov, a company that provides software intended to streamline communication between local governments and their citizens.
According to a GOGov representative, the company has over 650 municipal customers in the United States, and over 100 customers in California. Cities in both Stanislaus County and San Joaquin County are among some of the Northern California municipalities already using the software.
“Over 60% of the world’s web traffic is from a mobile device,” the spokesperson wrote in an email to the Los Gatan. “Agencies are recognizing this and apps are a streamlined and easy way for residents to interact with their local government, just as they do with their favorite businesses and social platforms.”
The home page features the same “popular pages” as the losgatosca.gov website, where residents can submit requests, message the Town and stay updated on local news and services.
Through MyLosGatos311, residents can report a concern or search for information through the app’s frequently asked questions feature.
To report a concern, users must create an account on the app, but will still have the option to remain anonymous when submitting a request.
Users are prompted to insert a photo of the concern, provide the address and add a description. Registering on the app allows users to track the status of their request.
Los Gatos also has access to a reporting engine in GOGov’s software, which allows the Town to create and run various reports for performance and identify trends with the data logged, according to the company rep.
Service requests can still be submitted through the Town’s website.
