On Tuesday, February 27, local teacher Sarah Glover was walking in downtown Los Gatos when she was hit by a large pickup truck.

She was rushed to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center‘s Level 1 Trauma Center, where doctors and nurses treated her brain injury, multiple fractured ribs, and a broken shoulder.

The longtime Los Gatos-Saratoga Observation Nursery School (aka Mountain School) teacher was admitted to the surgical ICU under close monitoring of the traumatic brain injury.

Since then, Sarah has experienced a roller coaster of symptoms while undergoing intensive rehabilitation for her broken shoulder and the extreme trauma her body went through.

Glover anticipates a long and challenging recovery.

On top of it all, she remains responsible for managing the care for her husband, Fred, who was diagnosed with dementia a couple of years ago and has steadily declined over the last six months.

The Santa Cruz Mountains community, in which she’s served for so many years, has begun to rally around her, including via a GoFundMe campaign.

Others shared reflections on how she helped run the Mountain School Family Camp at Sequoia Lake.

By Saturday, “Teacher Sarah” was bursting with positivity.

“It’s been quite an interesting journey, but I am just so thankful for all of your help,” she said, in a note posted online.

Two days later, 275 donations had poured in, generating $68,870 (of a $150,000 goal) to assist the woman organizers described as “the most joyful human you’ll ever meet.”
