Several weeks ago, a dirt-manure mixture was spread—by hand—around Town Plaza Park. And while the blades are coming in thick and luscious with clover, it’s a different kind of bluegrass that will be the star of the show tomorrow.
Los Gatos Music and Arts, the nonprofit behind Jazz on the Plazz, is kicking off the summer season with their Sounds of Summer production.
From noon until dark bluegrass and Americana music is set to waft through the redwoods and past downtown businesses.
“It’s an all-day festival,” said spokesperson Jessica Kashain. “We have a kind of Northern California vibe on bluegrass.”
The event features headliner Andre Thierry, a musician who performs Creole music.
“He is a very special human,” Kashain said, explaining he is renowned for his take on zydeco music. “And he plays the accordion.”
Also on the bill are the California Blue Runners, with their classic sounds, and the Santa Cruz Mountains-based Goat Hill Girls.
Plus, she added, the Wildcat Mountain Ramblers have a fun jam-sesh style.
Los Gatos Music and Arts has been stepping out into a wider variety of genres than ever before.
But locals are in great anticipation for the core Jazz on the Plazz series, which starts June 26 at 6:30pm.
“We have a really fantastic mix of talent coming in,” Kashain said. “It’s not going to be just one type of jazz.”
