When the body burns fat, where does it go?

In Los Gatos, those burned calories can be converted into cash for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley.

Mint Condition Fitness, which has helped Los Gatans and residents from surrounding communities hit their fitness goals for 13 years, is now looking to give back on a larger scale.

Throughout March, the personal training business will host Inches For Charity, and is hoping to attract as many people as possible for the cause.

For every inch lost during the 30-day challenge, Mint Condition Fitness will donate $20 to the Boys and Girls Clubs. Measurements will be taken weekly based on the mid-abdominal region.

“We are trying to not only get people involved in improving themselves, but also help raise funds for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley,” said Studio Manager Andrew Chiu.

Mint Condition Fitness was founded by Los Gatos native Colin Triplett in 2009, who witnessed his grandfather struggling with Alzheimer’s and excessive medication.

The pain he saw his grandfather go through inspired Triplett to help others regain their mobility and start on the path to a healthier lifestyle.

“Our objective has always been to focus on inspiring and empowering people to get the most out of their life,” Chiu said.

Chiu said the fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Clubs fits into that philosophy, supporting an organization that aims to provide a healthy future for the next generation.

For more than 75 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley has provided after-school and summer programs primarily for low-income Santa Clara County youth ages 5-18 years.

It serves about 3,000 regular members at 16 clubhouse locations in San Jose, Morgan Hill and Gilroy.

“Mint Condition’s generous support allows more underserved youth across Santa Clara County to learn, grow and discover their passions,” said Boys & Girls Clubs CEO Steve Wymer. “On behalf of our entire organization and the young people we serve, we are very grateful.”

Head Fitness Coach Bradley Cubbage said Mint Condition Fitness differs from a traditional gym in that it offers a personalized program that includes one-on-one training or small group sessions.

Rather than having machinery, its workout equipment includes a variety of barbells, bands, medicine balls and more, with the purpose of training movements.

Cubbage said many of Mint Condition Fitness’ clients are people with various mobility ailments, and are looking to get back into the activities they used to enjoy when they were younger.

New clients are giving a full evaluation on their current fitness, and the trainers work with them to come up with a plan that sets goals.

Mint Condition Fitness is located at 16 Lyndon Ave., Suite 102 in Los Gatos. For information, visit mintfit.com.
